Apply our latest clear coat and you’ll never have to wash or polish your car again! The coating protects against rock chips and takes the place of a clear bra! Features a 9H rating, one point lower than a diamond!
Sounds too good to be true, and it is. A recent post on Detailed Image explains that, while nano coating adds a layer of protection and makes your vehicle easier to clean, it’s no cure-all.

Myth 1: Apply our latest clear coat and you’ll never have to wash or polish your car again!
This one should sound suspicious right off the bat. A car that has a nano coat will require less maintenance than an uncoated vehicle, but you will still need to clean off the debris that accumulates on your car. In fact, if you fail to keep your car as clean as possible, clear coats lose their effectiveness.
The same goes for polishing. There is no way a clear coat can protect your car from everyday scratches and dings or swirls from improper washing.
Myth 2: The coating protects against rock chips and takes the place of a clear bra!
Another impossible claim. Nano coatings are too thin to stand a chance against rocks. If you have ever seen a clear bra up close, you know they’re made of hefty material.
Your best bet is to apply a nano coat on top of a clear bra. The nano coat will protect against environmental damage and add beauty and shine, while the clear bra prevents dings from rocks or other small projectiles.
Myth 3: Features a 9H rating, one point lower than a diamond!
This one is misleading. It implies that the hardness is determined using the same system geologists use to classify mineral hardness. In reality, it’s a different system entirely that involves pencil lead.
If a nano coat has a rating of 9H, that means it cannot be scratched with a 9H pencil. While this is the hardest type of pencil, it is still a great deal softer than 9H on the Mineral Hardness Scale (MOHS) that puts a diamond at a 10H. If your clear coat was a 9H MOHS, it would be impossible to scratch it with a key.

Yes, clear coats have their benefits. They can protect your car against dirt, dust, and environmental damages and add beauty and shine to your vehicle. However, no nano coat is able to defy the laws of physics.
